It was important right from the start to get strong elements of the plot filmed and into our piece as fast as possible. This shooting day was focused on the presentation of our protagonist in affiliation with the drug industry.
During this shoot, I set up a room as a bit of a party/drug den so it could be appropriate for our protagonist to make drug preparations for selling in. I arranged a mixture of empty and full alcoholic beverage bottles alongside empty food wrappers and smoking items in the room to show the kinds of dirty and neglected lifestyle our protagonist lives. I then used a glass slab and a credit card as the key piece of mise en scene for the shoot. Using the vitamin D I had previously experimented with to create a false cocaine substance and some 'baggies' purchased from Camden to imitate the ones I had seen in urban drama films such as Ill Manors, to put the vitamin d inside after crushing and measuring out.
I tried to get a range of shots from different angles to provide the opportunity to select the best few for the trailer. This shoot was successful in getting some good shots for the trailer to enhance the clarity of the drug relative narrative. Some of the issues from this shoot were getting good angles without my shadow in the shot or unclear shots. I tried to get some shots from underneath the glass tray (for racking lines) but found that it was too close and unclear.
