Inspiration

Some things which interest and inspire me are literature and film, particularly a combination of the two. By a combination of both mediums, I mean literature works which are then turned into feature films. Film adaptations of literary works which inspire and interest me most are created as a result of rich description or the book's narrative in general. One of my favourite writers is Cormac McCarthy whose work is critically acclaimed and the fact that some of his works have been adapted into some of my favourite films including 'The Road' and 'No Country For Old Men'. McCarthy's writing style is unique in its simplicity but is extremely effective in the way it conjures certain moods and imagery. Another author like Cormac McCarthy who shares a similar writing style and whose works have been adapted into notable films is Elmore Leonard. Some of his works which have been adapted into noteworthy films include 'Get Shorty', 'Out of Sight' and Quentin Tarantino's 'Jackie Brown' (the novel being 'Rum Punch'). The aspect which interests me the most about film adaptations of novels or short stories is the different ways someone, in this case the director, can interpret a novel for instance and adapt it into an entirely different medium.

One of my biggest interest and inspirations is film and cinema in general. One of my biggest interests and inspirations within film is cinematography. This is due to my interest in the composition of shots and the use of lighting, camera angles etc. in order to create certain moods and feelings for the audience. My most notable inspirations is prestigious cinematographer, Roger Deakins who has worked on countless films which have mostly received widespread recognition around the world, many of which nominated or winners of Academy Awards. These films include Skyfall, No Country For Old Men, The Shawshank Redemption, True Grit, O' Brother Where Art Thou?, Fargo and The Big Lebowski. Many of the films he has worked on, such as Fargo and No Country For Old Men, have been in collaboration with two of my favourite directors, Joel and Ethan Coen. Deakins' cinematography is, in my opinion, the best example of the craft in the world which his filmography largely reflects.
