How To Guide- Camera Angles

How-To Guide- Camera Angles

This shot is a close-up which is also a high angle shot. This close-up angle gives the audience a clear view of the subject which allows understanding of the character’s role and position in the film opening, i.e. she is a little girl tied up on a bed due to being possessed. The close-up angle also clearly shows the unusual circumstances of the little girl, i.e. tied up.

This shot is an extreme close-up. This angle displays to the audience the small rosary without wasting the frame with too much empty space. This allows the audience to know what is meant to be focused on within the shot. The rosary itself holds clear religious connotations which are a commonly used code and convention within the supernatural horror genre.

This shot is an establishing shot. This angle is commonly used at the beginning of a sequence to give a general view of the setting or to ‘set the scene’. This shot shows the little girl tied to a bed with another character looking over her. This gives the audience an idea of what the scene may entail as it progresses.

This shot is a high-angle shot. This type of shot is often used to make the subject appear smaller and subsequently more vulnerable. This shot again shows the little girl tied up but in a way in which the audience views her as distressed and vulnerable in the face of possession.
